One time I went to a drama thing called Mulkadee and my teachers made a really big deal about how great it was.

When I got there I discovered it was a Jesus drama exercise, and I was missing out on class during my senior assessment for a fucking fictional character and I wasn’t even learning anything. It was a circle-jerk of an event.

When the convenor of it asked for any criticisms from the floor, I told her that my day had been absolutely wasted. I had learned nothing, at all, from the day and I really couldn’t afford that with all the assessment I had piled up. She told me I would only learn if I wanted to learn and that tomorrow would be better. I told her that saying I didn’t want to learn was the easy way out of that argument, rather than actually saying what I was meant to learn, and that I wouldn’t be coming back tomorrow.

It caused quite an upset. My drama teacher and I had a very damaged relationship after that. 

Not denying it was a circle-jerk and that you were right to be annoyed

But what if someone had done that at UN Youth here?
